JOYOUS – Mental Health Program

Challenge

To promote Forgiveness in a non-cliche way

The JOYOUS Social and Emotional Health Program 2022 is a project under the “Positive Character and Mental Health Program” at City University of Hong Kong’s Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences, in collaboration with Harvard University in the United States. The goal is to raise awareness and understanding of forgiveness and mental health for individuals, families, and communities.

Visual Direction

I was asked to create an illustration to portrait “forgiveness”. Instead of emphasising the relationship with person to be forgiven, I focus on the idea that forgiveness is more to do with regaining peace and freedom within oneself.

Client: City University of Hong Kong

Violets

“The Fragrance the Violet Sheds on the Heel That Has Crushed It”. The flower message of Violets is forgiveness. It means that forgiveness shows the person’s true integrity.

Bird

Bird is another important symbol used in the design to bring out the message: “Forgiveness sets you free”
